ANIMAL LOVERS INVITED TO:

ANIMAL KINGDOM

AT KATHERINE ROAD ANIMAL HOSPITAL

Animal lovers and their companions can spend a weekend in “Animal Kingdom,” as part of Katherine Road Animal Hospital’s 20th Anniversary Celebration.

Events kick off Saturday, June 12 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., at the animal hospital, 2522 Locust in Quincy, Ill., with special guests, Clifford, the Big Red Dog, and Garfield the Cat. For canine friends, “Best Friends” dog training will be on hand along with homemade dog biscuits from 4 Paws Catering. To help homeless pets, Quincy Humane Society, Paw Pals and Purr Contentment Cat Rescue will be offering pet adoptions and selling T-shirts.

Saturday’s visitors can take a tour of the Katherine Road Animal Hospital (KRAH) Grooming Lodge and the amazing Raptor Rehabilitation Center with some special exotic wild animals. Charlie Talbott will be giving demonstrations with the birds of prey every hour. With an outdoor flight complex, the Raptor Rehabilitation Center is the only facility of its kind within a 100-mile radius. Through this non-profit program, professional staff and volunteers rehabilitate injured birds of prey such as hawks, eagles and owls with the goal of releasing them back into the wild when they are healed.

Throughout the day, children can enjoy face tattooing, puppets, treats and refreshments. Visitors can also register for prizes and meet KRAH’s newest associate, Janice McHenry, DVM.

Sunday, June 13, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., brings more activities with a dog wash and a blood drive. The dog wash costs $7 per dog. Nail trimming will also be available from Paw Pals. At the Red Cross Blood Drive, donors receive a free Pizza Hut Personal Pan Pizza coupon and a chance to win a $50 gift certificate to KRAH and the Grooming Lodge.

Katherine Road Animal Hospital focuses on small animal care, including cats, dogs, rabbits, rodents, birds, and reptiles. The veterinary staff provides routine check ups and wellness care, vaccinations and emergency care, as well as grooming and boarding services. They also provide house calls as necessary. The 4,200-square-foot facility includes an in-house laboratory and diagnostic equipment, as well as radiology, hematology, blood chemistry and EKG services. In addition to veterinary care, Katherine Road Animal Hospital also offers grooming and boarding, education programs and tours, and a Raptor Rehabilitation Center.

KRAH is the only facility in the area accredited by the American Animal Hospital Association. This voluntary accreditation means the hospital guarantees certain standards of excellence. Less than 20 percent of animal hospitals in the United States are accredited. Katherine Road Animal Hospital and Grooming Lodge is located at 2522 Locust in Quincy, Ill. Phone 217-228-1982.
